International Federation on Ageing - IFA

The IFA is an international non-governmental organization based in Montreal, Canada, which began operations in 1973. The IFA has consistently campaigned for the rights of older people in a diversity of ways, including involvement in drafting key initiatives, participating in and hosting global conferences, and producing its own reports and publications.

The IFA’s mission is to respond to the need for information on policies, rights, and practical moves to improve the quality of life of older people around the world. It is focused on building and strengthening bridges between government, non-government and the corporate sectors; strengthening non-government organizations through collaboration toward a common goal; improving the understanding of ageing policies and practices and their impact on the lives of older people.

The IFA currently associates organizations from 62 countries around the world, representing more than 45 million older people. It works to influence and promote positive change for older people globally.

Život 90

Život 90 (Life 90) is a non-government humanitarian organization focusing on senior citizens. We help older people to be able to actively and meaningfully live in their own homes as long as possible. Our goal is to improve the quality of life in general by supporting senior citizens and their right to dignity.

Život 90 offers social services including respite care, home care, Areion emergency line, and Senior Telephone help line. We provide counseling in social, psychological and legal spheres. We also offer courses (English lessons, ceramics, dance lessons), training (seminars about personal safety), and theatre performances and thus encourage senior citizens to engage in leisure time activities.

Život 90 uses its expertise in legislative procedures on the national as well as the regional level. We are also involved in various research projects regarding dignity, abuse of the elderly, long term care, new technologies approach, etc. Život 90 is a project leader as well as a project partner in various European and national initiatives focused on combating abuse of the elderly, and improving the life of senior citizens not only in Europe, e.g. European research project AMISL (Active Model for Improvement and Self Learning) 2007–9, European EU – Africa development projects “Taking Action on and Listening to the Forgotten Poor in European Development Policy“ 2006–9, “Decent Work for All“ 2008–11, “Linking Real Lives“ 2010–13, and also European projects targeted on poverty, social exclusion and dignity of older people like “INCLUSage“ project 2008–10 or “EUSTACEA“ project 2009–10.
