Work and the ageing labour force

Prof. Andreas Hoff
Professor of Social Gerontology at Zittau-Goerlitz University of Applied Sciences in Germany

Formerly Andreas was Senior Research Fellow, Head of the Research Program “Intergenerational Relations, Family Care and the Community” and Coordinator of the ‘Eastern-European Ageing Societies in Transition’ (EAST) research network at the Oxford Institute of Ageing, University of Oxford. He has published widely on intergenerational relations in family, community and society; grandparent-grandchild relationships; family care; the reconciliation of care and employment; migrant care workers; social inclusion of older people; and the ageing of Central and Eastern European societies. Other research interests include the use of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies in home care and developing Social Gerontology as an academic discipline.

Dr. Hoff is Vice-President of Research Committee 11 ‘Sociology of Aging’ of the International Sociological Association (ISA) and was Chair of the RC11 Scientific Program Committee at the XVI ISA World Congress of Sociology in Durban, South Africa, in 2006 and at the First ISA World Forum in Barcelona, Spain, in 2008. He is member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Intergenerational Relationships (JIR) and of the International Journal of Ageing and Later Life (IJAL).
